MidiConfig'er - InputControls
DeviceType's Input Control List:
Ok, MidiIn devices RARELY have the same controls.
(those sliders and joysticks and knobs and pedals and buttons and such)
To see what controls YOUR keyboard can generate,
You could look in the GOD FORSAKEN reference manual =OR= you could...
hilight a MidiIn device and hit the
"edit input DeviceType's control panel names" toolbar button.
(Hover to find it)
Stomp on some pedals, tweak the pitchbend and mod wheels,
and generally mess around with every slider, button, dial, knob, pedal,
breath controller, joystick, and doohickey you got.
As you play notes and tweak controls on the keyboard,
(or drumkit or whatever midi input device)
You'll see stuff in the "Inbound Events" list on the right...
- which cryptic "control number" your keyboard sends to midi and
- the value that control currently has.
(Handy for seeing if your pedal just sends switch values like 0 and 127
or if it sends continuous values from 0, 1, 2, 3 ... 126, 127)
Each time a -new- control shows up,
a new spot is made in the list on the left with the ID# of the control.
Give those cryptic "control numbers" a NAME.
Best to name it to what the panel label says.
Or if you have a bunch of sliders next to each other,
give em a number too. (Like s1, s2, s3..., etc)
For example...
- tweak the first slider on your keyboard.
- does anything show up in the Inbound Events?
It could be that slider doesn't go out midi - RATS! Check the manual :(
- If you get a new RawCtrl in the list (SWEEEET!),
look on the panel of your keyboard and give it THAT name.
(for me, it's S1 - first slider of 9:)
If there's no panel label,
come up with something short and descriptive.
If you're lucky, you may not even have to crack the device's manual !!
You've now got JUST the controls THIS devicetype can do all NAMED
according to what it says RIGHT there in front of you on the panel.
So if you've got 2 PCR-800s (YOU SCUM), they're both all done now.
Hit SAVE !! You're ready to start making input control MAPS :)
Now, if you've successfully done this, you could probably save somebody
ELSE who has your type of keyboard a lot of WORK :)
PLEASE email STEVE and he'll add it to "known deviceType" on the website.
