Recording - can I just record into a dang midi file PLEASE ??
- start PianoCheater
- click "edit songlist" button
- click "Create new song to practice" button
- give it a name. I suggest "awesome"
- Play some notes
- Press that topmost "edit key" note, then the key mapped to "recSave"
- You'll find your recording in the file at
...\PianoCheater\Recorded\_awesome@yyyymmdd.hhmmss.day.mid

Just hit SAVE, man...
PianoCheater is ALWAYS recording in case you stumble upon that perfect take.
recWipe
Since PianoCheater defaults to recording everything,
you'll wanna use the recWipe command occasionally
(erases all recording and goes back to bar #1)

Recording details...
Recording is enabled per track.
It's set up with REC.*.*> prefix meaning
any device any channel records into this track.
You'll see the #events column increment by 2 for each note (down+up).
Right click within the channel (Ch) column in the track grid to add a track.
(Lord, I apologize for that terrible GUI.)
If the .MID file is sitting in the ...\PianoCheater\Practice dir somewhere,
an extra blank track for recording gets added automatically.
If you're recording into a drumtrack,
new tracks will be created automatically as you play new drum notes.
When done recording,
use the "recSave" command to save the song as the next revision.
An @yyyymmdd.hhmmss.day will be tacked onto the previous song name.
(so you don't have to bother with a file save dialog)
A completely new song defaults to
PianoCheater\Recorded\@yyyymmdd.hhmmss.day.mid
