which one?
Ok, how do you know which keyboard is right for YOU ??
Chances are you want something from
the Casio Privia line...
or Yamaha YPG,DGX lines...
Great starter pianos. Inexpensive enough especially used.
START by looking at these...
They MAY be too "clacky" for you. (Keyboards sort of "rattle" a little.)
Then, hit Guitar Center to see what you've got to pick from.
You must actually TRY OUT something before you buy it.
Keyboard feel preferences are very personal, as are the sounds YOU like.
If you don't feel and hear your keyboard, you WILL regret it.
(Listen with headphones, too.)
Then, do research at
pianoworld.com's digital piano forum
and especially
pianoworld.com's digital piano forum - prices paid thread
Please search forum before posting ANOTHER "which piano is right for meeee?"
Stay awayyy from:
- all M-Audio keyboards
- any with lights in the keys (those will teach you how NOT to play).
If you're SURE you're ok with lite (unweighted) keys, they're cheaper.
You can always use em on a 2nd tier when you get your weighted keyboard :)
And lite keys have been used by organists and "synth heads" for a while...
you MAY end up preferring a lite touch keyboard. But it's kind of unlikely.

A digital piano (keyboard) is actually TWO things:
- a keyboard controller (keyboard input/midi output)
- a sound module (midi input/audio output)
Some synths come with both of these (regular digital piano).
Some are specialized for just keyboard input/midi output (midi controller).
Some are specialized for just midi input/audio output (midi sound module).
